In 1989 at the Memorial Potlatch for his brother, his Mother's Family placed him the Family's Chief position at The BigHouse where he received the name "Mus-Cum-Tsi", which symbolized the four clans of The Kwakwaka'Waka Nation.

Tim started carving in the Kwakiutl style at age 20 and was highly inspired and influenced by well-known artists Stan Hunt, Wayne Alfred, Beau dick, and Calvin Hunt.

Today his carvings are sold in the finest galleries in North America and Europe.

His work is part of the Royal Museum of British Columbia permanent collection.

Salmon and Bear Moon signed Tim Alfred 25” dia – red cedar.

This is carving from the old school, the way the old timers did carving then.

The carving is done mostly by adze and the surface is knife finished as opposed to being sanded.

The face and rim are on one piece of solid cedar.

The mask is adorned with abalone, cedar bark, paint, and mother of pearl.
