Product Description

New Brunswick Tartan

Motor Rug

This tartan is a New Brunswick Tartan designed by the Loom crofters.

Pictured is its founder, Patricia Jenkins, in 1959

This year is the 60th anniversary of the tartan.

While the Nova Scotia Tartan is technically older in design by a few years, the New Brunswick Tartan is the first officially designated Provincial Tartan.

The New Brunswick Tartan throws are sometimes called a motor rug or carriage robe.

The pieces are based upon the old fashioned robes, rugs or blankets people would put over their knees while out riding in open carriages.

The same were used when carriage rides gave way to automobiles and motoring for pleasure.

Motor rugs for sale in gift shops in New Brunswick, currently sell such between the $450-$500 range.

Even to this day, HM The Queen often uses a motor rug when traveling in the back of her limousines and of course when in an open carriage or at events.
