Product Description

Winter Pleasures, Preserving & Cooking Herbs, Cookbook by local Saanich author Noel Richardson.

In 1978, Noel moved with her husband, Andrew Yeoman, to Saanichton, BC, where they bought a ten-acre piece of land overlooking Mt Newton Valley and Brentwood Bay, which they turned into Raven Hill Herb Farm. Noel was an accomplished writer, publishing numerous cookbooks, magazine, and newspaper articles. Noel also taught cooking classes, both at the farm and in local kitchen stores. With Andrew, she gave talks to local gardening clubs and took an active role in the community beyond Raven Hill, serving on the Central Saanich Heritage Committee and the Central Saanich Police Board.

Ravenhill Farm has been the heart of the community in the Mount Newton Valley, due to the generosity of Noel and Andrew, who opened their farm to the public on Sundays, hosted popular Christmas markets, held art shows and theatre productions and welcomed people from all over the world.

Raven Hill Farm is a small organic farm specializing in culinary and medicinal herb starts & seeds. They also offer their own artisan herbal tea blends, infused herbal honeys, herbal extracts and grow delicious garlic for seed and culinary use.

Raven Hill Herb Farm is a little piece of paradise overlooking the Saanich Inlet and the beautiful Mount Newton Valley. Nestled there on a sunny south facing slope, the farm’s dry Mediterranean microclimate provides a natural habitat for a wide variety of herb plants to thrive. Home to many furry and feathered friends, their little herd of goats, heritage hens, turkeys and geese enjoy many acres of peaceful pasture interspersed with coastal Garry Oak, Arbutus and old growth Douglas Firs.

During the summer months, vistors can wander the herb and veggie gardens while taking in the sweeping views. The market in their old 1900’s barn offers a wide selection of organically grown herb starts, seasonal fruits and veggies, free-range organic eggs, herbal tea blends, herbal infused honeys, herbal salves, and a variety of local handmade goodies. Ten acres in total, the farm hosts two acres of established herb and veggie gardens.
