"Deschamps Quest" by Sherry Williams ~ Acrylic on fibreglass orca statue from the "Orcas In The City" project in Victoria, B.C. 2004.

The Bay Centre in downtown Victoria commissioned Sherry Williams to paint a historical motif on her Orca as part of the "Orcas in the City" project which stood at their downtown location in 2004. "Deschamp’s Quest" was a wonderful opportunity for her to share her own family history as a Metis person and as a descendant of the rugged Metis Voyageurs. Inspired by the quest of the Metis, "Deschamps Quest” bears the emblem of the Metis flag, the eternity symbol, on its back to signify the blending of the two races forever. Those first children born of European men and Indian women were the beginning of a new race of people. The Metis meaning is “to mix” and is synonymous with The Hudson’s Bay Company and early explorers.

A very collectable piece which at the end of the Orcas In The City project, the whales were going for $12,000.
